About a decade ago (before I was hired) our supervisor, Dan, came around and collected some obsolete cables for the garbage man. These cables had been replaced with new cables years prior and were still useable, but no longer necessary. Ted, cleaning out his desk revealed a cache of about a dozen of the obsolete cables...
Ted: "Dan told us to throw these away, but I kept 'em here. Do you want any?"
Me: "No thanks...I don't need them. Why did Dan want them thrown out?"
Ted: "I don't know...but I do know that I forgot more about cables than that kid ever knew."
Note: The "kid" Dan is in his fifties. In the end Ted managed to save the cables from being thrown away, only to have them sit in a box under his desk for a decade, then be thrown away.
